神经元——神经系统的基本结构和机能单位。主要部分包括树突、胞体、轴突、细胞膜。树突形状似分叉众多的树枝,上面散布许多枝状突起,因此有可能接受来自许多其他细胞的输入。胞体内有细胞核,而且绝大多数维持细胞生命的细胞器都在其中。轴突为细胞的输出端,从胞体延伸出来,一般很长。许多轴突由髓鞘包裹,其作用是与其他细胞的信息流绝缘。

谷氨酸能神经元(Glutamatergic neurons)
谷氨酸能神经元是中枢神经系统内最为重要的兴奋性神经元。当神经元中谷氨酸被囊泡谷氨酸转运体(vesicular glutamate transporters,VGLUTs)转运进入突触囊泡(synaptic vesicle),突触囊泡再与突触前膜融合后,谷氨酸才能被释放到突触间隙中并作为神经递质发挥作用,才可以确定该神经元是谷氨酸能的。

神经胶质细胞
也称神经胶质,是广泛分布于中枢神经系统内的,除了神经元以外的所有细胞,在中枢神经系统中数量大约是神经元的十倍。具有支持、滋养神经元的作用,也有吸收和调节某些活性物质的功能。
神经胶质细胞分类:
星形胶质细胞(Astrocyte)
最大的神经胶质细胞,胞体直径3-5微米,核呈圆球形常位于中央,淡染。它有许多长突起,其中一个或几个伸向邻近的毛细血管,突起的末端膨大形成血管足突,围绕血管的内皮基膜形成一层胶质膜。星形细胞又分为原浆型和纤维型两种。

比星形细胞小,直径1-3微米,突起也比其他胶质细胞少而短,无血管足,胞浆中不生成纤维,但较星形细胞有更多的线粒体。中枢神经组织的髓鞘是由少突细胞突起形成的,因此,其功能与外周神经的许旺氏细胞相同。少突胶质细胞的主要功能是在中枢神经系统中包绕轴突、形成绝缘的髓鞘结构、协助生物电信号的跳跃式高效传递并维持和保护神经元的正常功能。
